Climate Connections Week1

Well its been a rough start for us this year, but i think we'll do well if we regroup and organize ourselves.  First off there are 2 teams, with more kids to manage and keep track of its work cut out for us.  Theres still some resistance with the older team vs the new kids, but i think they're warming up as time goes on.

This week we tried to build our robot and didnt get really far.  After speculating the missions  on Wednesday we tried to build a mock robot just to have for practicing.  I divided the team into 4 groups to see who could build the best robot.  It was pretty hard to build without knowing the missions and the teams in general had a hard time getting back into it.  We definitely want to use bigger wheels this year and i think i want to push the team into building a steering drive robot instead of a skid steer type bot.  There were some cool designs.

On Friday the challenge was released and man it's a doozy, Saturday i got a chance to show the team what the missions were and they looked pretty dumfounded. The same with the research project.  I wanted to continue building robot using engineering methods, but i think i need a smaller group for that.   Im still going to push the steering robot design unless one of them comes up with something amazing.   This coming week i'll split them up in their roles.  Older teammates will be captains of respective teams, this should work out well i think.
